We matched through a dating app called Coffee Meets Bagel! After one month of talking, we went on our first date to a corn maze and pumpkin patch. It was a given that we would get lost in the corn maze, but what we didn't expect was for us to get lost in conversation. Nothing else surrounding us had mattered.

Derrick came up with the project "company party" in order to find the perfect place to surprise and propose to Hong Van. After exploring 11 locations, he stumbled upon Filoli Historic House and Garden, and knew this was the place to propose at. When it came time to go to the fake company party, Derrick had unfortunately caught COVID 5 days prior. Project "company party" had to be abandoned, and he consulted her maid of honor, Annie, on a new plan. Fortunately, with her help, Annie’s birthday event 3 weeks later became the new disguise for the proposal. As Derrick and Hong Van approached a restricted area of the garden, Hong Van could not believe what was to come, and surely enough, Derrick got on one knee, Hong Van said “YES!”, and all was beautiful history.
