We met while working at one of our college jobs in Oxford, MS during our time at Ole Miss. Though we did not think too much of it at first, our friendship grew while preparing apartments for new residents as we were partnered up to replace smoke detector batteries. After a very short period of time, I finally gathered the nerve to ask Jana out on a date. We had a great dinner where we didn't eat much, though that has changed, and I showed Jana around her new campus where we walked both of our schedules for the upcoming year. After seeing my dog Duncan, which I used to get Jana to talk to me outside of work, Jana decided to stick around for a few more dates.
A few weeks before the proposal, Riley Green visited Oxford, MS to put on a concert, that I actually was not able to go to. Luckily, I have a few friends that are related to him and I asked them to get me a signed shirt with "Will You Marry Me" written on it. Riley Green, being the legendary country singer that he is, was gracious enough to provide. Around the time of the proposal my family was visiting a cute mountain town near Asheville, NC that would make a perfect picturesque proposal. I found the perfect spot to take Jana to then gave her the signed shirt as an "extra surprise Christmas gift." By that point I was down on one knee but Jana was so enthralled and excited to have a signed Riley Green shirt that she did not notice the other message on the shirt. She finally dropped the shirt quickly and immediately was in tears. (Hopefully tears of joy) I then proceeded to put the ring on the wrong finger, which she quickly corrected me, and we were engaged!
