Hunter and Winnie first met in 2014 through a “mutual friend” while running cross counrty for Volcano Vista High School. A year later Winnie intentionally lost a bet and went on a date with Hunter to see The Visit and play an extremely competitive game of air hockey (To this day Hunter still maintains his victory). They continued to date for four years while both attending the University of New Mexico.

Hunter proposed to Winnie on August 10th, 2019...Hunter and Winnie went on vacation to visit Hunter’s mom in Connecticut. He didn’t know where he wanted to propose, so his mom planned potential proposal spots for them to visit throughout their trip. His plan included an adventure box, which he made himself. Little did Winnie know, Hunter’s mom was carrying the adventure box in a large backpack while visiting all the locations. At one point Winnie herself had offered to carry the backpack not knowing what was inside. After riding rental bikes across Block Island, Winnie, Hunter and Hunter’s close family stopped to visit a secluded beach called Mohegan Bluffs. While walking down the stairs, Hunter alerted his family that this would be the location by uttering the previously agreed upon code phrase “This looks like Jurassic Park”. To which Winnie immediately responded, “What? No it doesn’t, have you ever actually seen the movie?”. Once down on the beach, Hunter and his family got into position while Winnie lingered behind trying to find a sea shell. With the adventure box in hand, Hunter called over Winnie who was still focused on digging through the sand. When Winnie finally walked up to Hunter, she noticed the box and the first thing she said was, “Did you just find this?”, even though the words, ‘Hunter and Winnie’s Adventure Box’, were written on the top. Winnie opened the box revealing a dog collar with the name Cooper on it (Winnie has always wanted a golden doodle and to name him Cooper). Hunter promised that one day he would buy Winnie a golden doodle and that could only happen with one thing... “Will you marry me?”
