Our engagement at Stonehenge, Summer Solstice, June 21 2022
Sara travelled to Santa Barbara to get involved with Lucidity Festival back in 2014. It was there that she met Eliot, who was the production manager for the festival. They didn't get to know each other much until the following year when Eliot helped Sara tackle operations projects, talking into the early hours of the morning. When she came down to Santa Barbara again, Eliot made a point to spend time with her prior to the festival, and they only got closer over the event. After the festival Eliot took Sara through the mountains to his favorite lookout spot, and it was there that they expressed their love and desire to make a long distance relationship work.
In June 2022, Sara and Eliot traveled to the UK to road trip around Scotland for 2 weeks. In the middle of their trip they flew from Inverness and traveled to Salisbury to be at Stonehenge for the sun rising on the summer Solstice - one of only two times a year that people are allowed to touch the stones. As they watched the sun rising through the stones, Eliot got down on one knee and proposed, surprising Sara completely! Thankfully, the people they had been hanging out with were able to film the whole thing. Everyone around them cheered and they received congratulations throughout the morning from hundreds of people who saw it happen. It was truly the most romantic thing Eliot had ever done! But, that's not the whole story! Sara and Eliot had actually lost their luggage on the way to the UK (thanks Air Canada). Eliot had packed the ring in his checked bag so Sara wouldn't find it (as he was suffering from a back injury and taking lots of pain meds to get through the flights). When they went shopping in Glasgow, Eliot ran around the city looking for a place to find another engagement ring - he was not going to pass up this unique opportunity! He found a beautiful, locally made ring and held onto it for another week while they traveled, presenting it to Sara at Stonehenge. Upon their arrival back home in Santa Barbara, and after not receiving any news about where Eliot's bag had gone, his bag miraculously showed up at their house three weeks after their return. The initial ring he intended to propose with belonged to his father's mother, and now Sara is blessed to have two rings with history, love and intention attached to both!
