Question

We moved the morning ceremony to 9:30 AM

Answer

At the temple’s request, we are moving the morning ceremony to 9:30am when it will be cooler. The temple’s AC is not powerful. Feel free to arrive late. The Hindu ceremony will last until ~11 and doesn’t require your full attention. There will be visiting, chai, and lots of food.

Question

What to expect at the Hindu wedding ceremony?

Answer

Our Hindu wedding is expected to start at 10:30 am on 25th May, Saturday. It will be two hours long and consists of performing few rituals. The mantras (chants) will be recited by the pundit (officiant) in Sanskrit, although he will explain those rituals in English. The seven major rituals of the wedding will proceed in following order: Baraat (Groom’s Procession); Kanya Aagman (The Arrival of The Bride); Jai Mala (Exchange of Garlands); Kanyadaan (The ‘Giving Away’ of the Bride); Saptapadi (The Seven Sacred Steps Around the Fire); Sindoor (Declaring the Bride as Married); Vidai (The Send Off). Lunch will be served at the temple.

Question

What to wear for the Hindu Ceremony?

Answer

We would like to encourage people to wear what they are comfortable in and we do not want anyone to feel forced to wear a traditional Indian wear. Having said that, think of this as the INDIAN MET GALA!!! You can wear any colour (There is no concept of bride’s colour in Hindu ceremony). So, wear any colour you want, any patterns. Be Extravagant! (P.S. Just make sure you will be comfortable wearing that in May in AZ). Also, feel free to wear your traditional/cultural clothing because we would love to see that! Ladies! Question

We will meet again for the wedding reception at Ahwatukee Event Center at 6 pm. Do not forget to wear your dancing shoes! We will have a lot of dance performances by the bride and groom, their families, and friends!
