Whether you are a lover of the sun or can't stand sitting still, West Gilgo has something for everyone. It's a small beachside community -- comprised of around 80 homes -- just beyond Jones Beach. Shae's family is one of the founding families of the community, and she has been going to the beach every summer of her life. The beach is a gated and private beach, so please let us know if you would like to visit and we can send a super secret gate code. Please note: this is pack in and pack out (food, bev, towels, chairs), with no grocery store within 20 minutes. We think it's worth it, and if you're lucky you may see a celebrity sighting!
Just downtown is a beautiful walk along the waterfront. It is an easily accessible, flat and paved park area for anyone over 65. For you younger folk, grab a frisbee or a camera and take in the views of Oyster Harbor on a relaxing stroll.
This is a great nature walk that includes a beautiful beach walk along the harbor. Wear shoes as it is a little hilly. Roosevelt Museum is also at this location (the top of the hill). ** Gram & Gramps if you managed to get to this point, this hiking excursion is not for you **
For you out of towners, Mario's is a must. For you townies, this is an excuse to bring someone to have a (another) slice. Please note: Garlic knots are deadly, a slice is a regular piece of cheese pizza, and a "slice of cheese" is some weird trifecta of cheeses. You can imagine their reaction when Will asked for a "piece of cheese pizza". Don't be offended if they rush you -- it's NY.
I'm not going to lie to you, this is Will speaking. And when I say you *must* go to Carvel, you must go. Soft serve is what they're known for and is a perfect little accompaniment to a walk.
Need a lift? Walk over to Southdown! Will's typical order is a cortado, and Shae's is a flat white (it's just a latte with half the milk). They "share" a cookie.
This is a fun little spot. We sat upstairs when we went and loved the food and cocktails! It's walking distance from the hotel.
Another great restaurant in Roslyn (and only a 5 minute walk from the hotel) is Gatsby's Landing! They also have outdoor dining.
Known for their cocktails and food, 2 spring is a lovely lunch option in downtown Oyster Bay. Their outside seating is comfortable, and you will enjoy your meal alongside flowers. Our favorite dish here is the lobster hash!
When in NY, you must grab something from a deli. Good for beach sammy's, breakfast sammy's, and everything in-between. Our favorite menu items.... Breakfast: Bacon, Egg, salt & pepper on a roll Lunch: Chicken cutlet, roasted pepper, lettuce, mayo, salt & pepper on a roll
It's the water, we swear! Grab a bagel, any bagel.
