4/17/2020 This is a situation no one can prepare for. Wedding planning is complicated enough without a pandemic! We have made the decision to go ahead and cancel our wedding on May 30, 2020. I'm not sure if there is a "right way to go about this." This is such a confusing and tough time. We apologize for not notifying everyone sooner. We had hoped and wished the containment and spread would have improved and subsided enough to celebrate together in union of friends and family. At this time, we may complete a very intimate celebration on May 30th. We hope to schedule a future celebration, but we are unsure the safest time to celebrate as a union. We appreciate your patience. Thank you for your understanding and support, Love Marie and Matthew 3/29/2020 We are continuously evaluating the situation and want everyone to know that if we keep our May 30, 2020 wedding we do not want anyone to feel pressured into attending. YOU, the people we love, are who matter to us. Your health and safety is of utmost importance. We are weighing all our options and plans for our special day. At the moment our venue and all our vendors are in support of our current date. Although, that could change at any moment. We ask everyone to provide their email or number when RSVPing to our event. If you know that you cannot come if the date remains on May 30th please let us know. If you aren't sure and waiting to evaluate the situation, we understand. Please consider RSVPing with either answer, so that way we can send out electronic push updates to everyone. The RSVP deadline was April 15th but you may notify us after that date or change your RSVP if you feel the need. We hope to notify everyone as soon as possible of any changes in size, structure or timing to our special day. Thank you for your time and support. Love M&M
We met our Freshman year of Seabreeze High School. Although, a love attraction formed in Chemistry class Sophomore year. I sat behind Matt for almost a year until he caught my ion-- I know, bad chemistry joke. A friendship blossomed and our summer was filled with: manhunt in Hunters Ridge, lake trips to Lake Wildcat, and beach days at the Beach House. Summer was coming to a close and Ashley Teta had a Sweet 16 Party planned. At the end of the night, Matt confronted me with a rose and asked me to be his girlfriend. I shyly accepted his girlfriend proposal. I ran off to tell Ashley and Katelyn and headed home. Although, if you ask Matt for his side of the story, he thinks I told him I'd be back and I left him hanging. The jury is still out on that one. We started our Junior year of high school hand in hand and we've never let go.
Nearly two years into our relationship, our high school graduation was upon us. Two years of friend groups merging, more beach days, and Steak 'n Shake dates. Matt had agreed to join the Navy and I had accepted a spot at University of North Florida in Jacksonville. On our two year anniversary, August 14, 2012, I dropped Matt off at the Volusia Mall. He left for Naval boot camp later that afternoon. We lived 4 years in a long distance relationship. We hoped to see each other every 2-3 months. It wasn't easy, but we had many adventures spent traveling to: Pensacola, Norfolk, Jacksonville, Washington D.C., and more! Our love was fostered through emails, texts, and care packages. Our biggest obstacle: 9 months of deployment battling different time zones. Our love grew and survived. Proving long distance love is possible.
Finally, we were like the "normal couples" we always longed to be. Living together, seeing each other everyday, and lunch dates on campus. But I guess if we were normal, the distance would have broke us. 8.5 years later Matt had planned a weekend get away at The Beach House. The Beach House is a special place in our relationship. We enjoyed our time walking the beach and soaking in some sun. Little did I know, Teta was anxiously waiting behind the house to snap a picture of the long anticipated moment. In addition, I had no idea friends and family were gathering for a surprise engagement party. Matt was pressed for time, but wanted the moment to be perfect. I was taking my time getting ready for our "date night" at Hulls Seafood. Matt was thinking of ways to get me to hurry up. Whales. How often do whales show up on the coast of Ormond Beach? Whales breached in front of The Beach House. We ran outside to snap some pictures, then Teta gave Matt the push he needed. She popped up from around the corner and started snapping pictures. Matt dropped to one knee and asked me to be his forever.
