Carson surprised me with a trip to the Mystic Aquarium, a place I'd been wanting to visit ever since our first trip together to his home state of Connecticut. He had a whole day planned under the guise of a belated birthday outing with everyone's favorite third wheel and roomie, Shelley. After a day with the beluga whales, a late lunch, and a hunt for some ice cream in the Mystic seaport, we found a small beach outside of town to watch the sunset. Shelley, who remained a steel trap all day, convinced us to take some pictures along the water just as the sun was setting. After a few shots, as the great photographer and co-conspirator she is, Shelley suggested we try some "fun" poses. While my immediate thought was "you know we aren't good at those", Carson took advantage of the lead in and dropped his now-famous line "I can think of a fun pose" before dropping to one knee and sending me into complete disbelief. I'm pretty sure I heard the words "will you marry me?" but after only slightly blacking out, I said yes to the love of my life, and here we are now planning the biggest party of our lives!
