Sebastopol in particular is famous for its apples, namely the Gravenstein. Some records show that Gravenstein apples were first planted in Sonoma County in 1811 by Russian explorers. It then followed with Nathaniel Griffith planting an orchard on Laguna Road on the advice of Luther Burbank, who is the world-renowned horticulturalist that called Sonoma County home. The rest as they say is history.
