For starters, Shane knew Michelle's dad, brother and sister before he even knew Michelle existed (they all took martial arts together at the same dojo in Prescott, Arizona). In 2005, Michelle's dance studio hosted an open house performance night, and Shane happened to be invited by one of her dance classmates. After the show, Vic (Michelle's dad) spotted Shane and introduced Michelle to him. It was brief, but not long after that, they connected on MySpace (when that was still a thing). They finally became a couple in February 2008 and have been together ever since—from Prescott, to Tucson and now NYC!

It was an ordinary Saturday, or so Michelle thought. A couple of days before, Shane invited Michelle for an "impromptu" trip to the Bronx to see the Orchid Show at the New York Botanical Garden. By Saturday, Michelle was pretty tired (and grumpy) due to an exhausting two weeks of apartment hunting, so Shane kept trying to cheer her up. When they entered the exhibit, there was a giant tree soaring up to the ceiling, covered with flowers. It was beautiful. Michelle started snapping photos with her DSLR, which she hadn't taken out of its case in years. To keep Michelle occupied, Shane told her to "get a little closer" to the tree. So, she scooted up a little bit and snapped another photo. A few seconds later, she looked to her right... Shane was down on one knee! He immediately popped the question and she was completely surprised! Obviously, she said YES.
