Taking it alllll the way back to 2010 where Hannah and Anthony both absolutely don’t remember how they met but began an extended series of “I like you, do you like me?” The first iteration was short lived but memorable to the point of a very awkward prom picture where there was plenty of room for Jesus. This would also be the same time Anthony befriended both of Hannah’s brothers so she was forced to remember her obviously tragic mistake of “not wanting a relationship.” Flash forward several years later, the next few attempts from both Hannah and Anthony were met with conflicting timing and some mixed feelings. Comparable to those times at a restaurant where the waiter comes out with a tray full of orders, walking in your direction, only to serve the table right next to you. You feel let down and the timing couldn’t have been worse because you’re starving. Finally, some years later, the spark was re-ignited back to those pre-prom feelings and eventually led to the door-step of love, laughter, and happily ever after!
If you don't know, Hannah lived in Colorado for a period of time after grad school where she fell in love with the mountains. I came to visit several times where I would discover it was going to be difficult to pull her away from this and drag her back to Iowa. Having "won" that battle, I decided I would try to propose in the highest spot I knew of in the Des Moines area. Coincidentally, this was at the Iowa State Fair on top of the hill by the windmill. I figured the sunset would enhance the experience. It didn't hurt that there is a bar at the top of this hill to help me make an excuse to force her up there on the hottest day of the year. I remember Hannah saying, "why are we doing this? Do we have to? It's so damn hot." I promised her a wine slushy when we reached the top and reiterated the sunset was going to make it all worth it. I did not tell any family or friends as I wanted to share this experience with only her. I asked Hannah to go get us some drinks while I found a table and asked a stranger to take our picture when she got back. As I handed this stranger my phone, I whispered, "oh, by the way, I am going to propose." A look of surprise and shock came upon the stranger's face as she followed me to the spot. The rest is history! Hannah and I both blacked out while it was happening so we cannot confirm I even asked her or if she said yes.
