Kyle and Erica were both selected from their local church to attend a leadership conference in Atchison, Kansas. Erica says her first impression of Kyle was when he offered to carry one of her bags at the airport and throw away her trash after eating. While the two attended rival high schools, they quickly became close friends until rumors were spreading of a secret romance. Before they began college, they officially labeled their relationship and the rest is history.

Kyle and Erica got engaged on the beach where Erica was living in Galveston, TX on the morning before Easter. They were enjoying a morning on the beach having a picnic with one of Erica's best friends, Adele, who also stayed after the proposal to take all of the photos. Erica was super suspicious leading up to the morning but so excited when it actually happened! She even has a vlog of the whole engagement day on her YouTube channel!
