Courtney grew up two doors down from Olivia who was dating and is now married to Vinnie’s cousin Dave. Olivia knew we’d be great together so with enough courage, Courtney did what any millennial thought would be a great idea to get to know someone – she followed Vinnie on Instagram. Vinnie, not knowing who this person was since no one mentioned anything to him, did nothing. So Courtney did what any millennial thought would be a great idea after Vinnie did nothing – she unfollowed him. Classic love story. Lucky for us, that’s not where the story ends. Months later, Vinnie was given the heads up this time and the two were invited over to Dave and Olivia’s place for dinner, drinks, and watching none other than the classic modern romance film The Mask. Vinnie couldn’t keep his eyes off of her and Courtney laughed extra hard at all his dumb jokes. Phone numbers were exchanged and the rest is history.

Vinnie and Courtney decided to head to Kauai for Courtney’s first time out there in November, 2021. When Vinnie was still uncertain he’d be able to go about 3 weeks prior to the trip because of his work schedule, Courtney assured herself that this was yet another trip without a proposal planned. There was not a chance that this was it. What about that trip to Zion? No proposal. What about that trip to Yosemite? No proposal. I mean, why on earth would Vinnie plan this trip with the plan to propose if he didn’t have the dates scheduled off from work with a guarantee this was going to happen (welcome to the life of a pilot)? Fast forward to the proposal day in Kauai. Vinnie and Courtney were joined by two close friends, Joey and Kayla. Joey stocked up with some beers and a bottle of champagne to catch sunset on some cliffs overlooking the beach. We were CLEARLY celebrating Vinnie’s new job. Vinnie invites a pilot buddy and Joey has to make up every excuse in the book for why we can’t open the champagne. After 20 minutes of pacing around and freaking out and hyperventilating, “How about a photo with a view, Courtney?” As Vinnie turns Courtney around to take some intentionally cheesy prom-style photos, that’s when he gets down on one knee. In complete and utter surprise I think both of us blacked out because in the moment, Vinnie is still not sure he actually popped the question and Courtney is still not sure she actually said yes. But somehow the ring ended up on her finger, and most importantly – we then got to open the champagne.
