Ashley and Kyle were introduced to each other by their dear friend Michelle Fong. Michelle and Kyle knew each other from Redondo Beach and Ashley lived with Michelle for 3 years at UC Berkeley. 13 years ago, on September 24, 2009, Ashley and Michelle's sorority had an invitational. For those who don't know, an "invite" is a sorority-hosted theme party that usually takes place in San Francisco. The theme was "Jungle Juice". Michelle had two extra tickets and suggested bringing Kyle, her dongsaeng (little brother in Korean). Ashley had met Kyle a few times before but never got the chance to get to know him. They had group dinners at the AOII house and played volleyball together. She and Michelle even took Kyle to his first college party during his freshman-year welcome week. On the night of the invite, Ashley vividly recalls Michelle telling her to “give him a chance" because they both had “chill personalities." On the way to the invite, Ashley and Kyle sat together on the bus and had a riveting conversation that neither of them can remember. The entire night, they danced, held hands, and may have stolen a kiss from each other. As the party came to a close and hunger set in, the group decided to make a mad dash for the dining hall before it closed. This led to the infamous piggyback picture that they cherish today. Not sure who thought it was a great idea for Ashley, who was wearing boot heels, to be the one sweeping Kyle off of his feet. Over the next few months, they texted each other, went on a few dates, and hung out with each other's friends. Each hang-out got progressively more romantic. Before Christmas break, Kyle planned a date where they ventured to San Francisco to go ice skating in Union Square. They shared a Subway sandwich and another kiss. Soon after, Ashley flew down to Redondo Beach for Michelle‘s 21st birthday. Since Kyle lived so close, they ended up spending a lot of time together, watching Avatar in theaters, eating at the Cheesecake Factory, and spending the day at Six Flags. On New Year’s Eve, their group of friends went to a concert called TAO or Together As One. It was this night that Kyle and Ashley started falling in love and would eventually become exclusive; boyfriend and girlfriend. The rest is history! They enjoyed several years of college together and went backpacking in Europe during the summer break. Lived out some of their best years in Seoul, South Korea while teaching English for two years, and then traveled extensively through South East Asia. After that, they experienced one year on the East Coast while living in Baltimore. And now, they feel more settled and are ready to start the next chapter of their life together. MARRIAGE!
