It all started at a Bible study where Jacob’s brother and his wife both noticed a new girl walk in. After the study ended, they saw each other and immediately brought it up. Jacob’s brother said, “Did you see that new girl? I think she’d be perfect for Jacob.” His wife replied, “No way—I was thinking the exact same thing!” A few days later, while Jacob happened to be at his parents’ house, they told him the whole story and how they both felt strongly that he needed to meet this girl. Jacob laughed it off—he was focused on his career and wasn’t really trying to meet anyone. But his sister-in-law wouldn’t let it go. She kept encouraging him to just come to the Bible study and see for himself. Eventually, Jacob agreed. Week 1: Jacob went, but she didn’t show. “Just try one more time,” his sister-in-law said. Week 2: Still no girl. Jacob shrugged and said, “See? It’s not God’s will,” and told them he was done. The following week, something unexpected happened. Jacob, who normally reserves Sundays as a day of rest and worship, got a last-minute request from an artist friend to finish an Afrobeat song. After much persistence, Jacob reluctantly agreed. That Sunday, the artist showed up—along with another artist Jacob already knew who was also featured on the track—and a girl Jacob assumed was just tagging along. During the session, Jacob casually said, “You don’t usually see all three major Nigerian tribes together in California, you especially don't come across hausas ” The girl suddenly spoke up saying, “I have!” Jacob said, “Really? Who?” She replied, “Bullus and Vebiang.” Jacob froze. Bullus was his brother. Vebiang—his sister-in-law. Just weeks prior, those two had been trying to get Jacob to meet a girl they had seen at Bible study. Now, out of nowhere, he was in the studio with her. He quickly stepped out of the session and called his sister-in-law: “Wait… what was the name of the girl you wanted me to meet?” “Esso.” “Send me a photo—now.” She did—and it was the girl in the studio. His sister-in-law screamed on the phone, “SEE! You can’t run—God has arrested you!” Meanwhile, Esso noticed Jacob kept stepping out of the session. She thought, “This guy must have bladder issues.” Back inside, Jacob pulled aside the artist friend and asked, “Are you dating her?” He laughed and said, “No, she’s a talented artist. She’s working on music and I thought you’d be the perfect person to give her feedback—and maybe help her out.” (Outside of her career, Esso is a gifted musician who had been searching for the right person to guide her in launching her first project.) That day, without knowing it, Jacob’s brother, his sister-in-law, and now a mutual music friend had all tried to connect him to the same girl. Just a few days later, as if things weren’t already wild enough, Jacob’s mom randomly smiled and said to him: “I had a dream that you introduced me to a short girl who can sing.” (If you know Esso… well, that checks out.) Now the list had grown—his brother, sister-in-law, a music friend, and his mom (via dream). At this point, Jacob knew this wasn’t a coincidence. It felt like an answer to prayer. He had always asked God to help him find the right woman—and the signs were undeniable. A few days later, Esso got a text from an unknown number—it was Jacob. She hadn’t expected him to reach out, but from their first conversation, it felt like they had known each other forever. He asked her out, and on their first date, Jacob finally told her the whole story—how four people had been trying to set them up and how he realized in the middle of a music session that she was the girl they had all been talking about. Esso burst out laughing and said, “That’s crazy!!” From that night on, they both knew—this was no random meeting. It was God’s perfect plan. And they’ve been inseparable ever since.
