How We Met

NYU leads to “I Do”

Way back in 2017, everyone was looking forward to a three day weekend. Everyone except Victoria and Gerard who had to work double time at NYU to discharge patients. Victoria needed paperwork filled out, Gerard had doctor’s handwriting and adult home problems ensued. From that, Victoria told her boss she would never work on medicine again and DEFINITELY not with Dr. Casale. Lo and behold a month and particular patient later (and the social work gods that had Victoria covering) bedside manner and charm brought these two together and the rest is history, with a little help from a particular case manager giving Gerard Victoria’s number. It was a long distance relationship between Bay Ridge, Park Slope and the R train but they made it work. And the coffee shop at Lutheran really made some good money off of all the iced coffees purchased when Gerard needed a reason to stop by surgery to strike up conversation and for these two to get some time together at the hospital. Now, Gerard is at Sinai and Victoria is at Cornell but at least the small victories lie within History and Physical reports written by Gerard having full social work assessments detailing home attendants and family support.

The Proposal

An Engaged Stay in Montego Bay

May of 2019 couldn’t come fast enough, Victoria and Gerard had planned a trip to Jamaica. Little did Victoria know that Gerard was bringing an extra special gift, one that he incessantly checked was locked in his carry on bag, got through security and wasn’t suspected by TSA. Montego Bay and the resort was the perfect backdrop, and while Gerard scouted out the best place to pop the question, Victoria stayed in the sun too long and fried. The second night at the resort, while Victoria carefully put on a dress to avoid contact with her sunburn, Gerard decided to pop the question on one knee right by the door. Victoria turned the corner and immediately asked “What are you doing?”. After the initial shock, Victoria of course said yes. Gerard was real happy the rest of the trip wouldn’t be awkward. Victoria’s mom immediately started planning an engagement party and picking out wedding dresses. The venue was chosen a month later !
