Yes -- "Andrew" [legally Patrick] -- has the joy of going by his middle name -- so if you did not know, now you know! [Feel free to ask his parents why they saddled him with this anvil] -- Wedding formality aside, anything is better than the first day of school and having to raise his hand to explain that he went by a different name...
Yes, Andrew [so humble too]
COVID-19 has presented an unprecedented challenge, and one we are actively planning around. We made the difficult decision to reduce our attendance considerably, and currently we anticipate having less than ~20% capacity in the Cathedral and ~50% capacity at the restaurant for the reception. Undoubtedly, social gatherings and in-person events have been drastically impacted over the last 18 months, and we fully understand the consideration(s) that are present for you evaluating potentially attending in-person social gatherings. First and foremost, we would not want anyone to feel any pressure to attend if you do not feel safe, or if you are uncomfortable with larger groups at this time. Additionally, we would request that if you have had direct contact with anyone that is COVID positive, within the last 11 days, and/or experiencing COVID symptoms, please avoid in-person attendance. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask, please feel free to do so.
We encourage everyone to consult with their primary healthcare physician in determining what course is best for them, regarding the personal decision to be vaccinated against COVID-19. That said, in following local guidelines regarding event(s) of this scale, we understand a significant percentage of attendees will likely be vaccinated. However, with any public gathering, there is inherent risk of potentially spreading COVID-19 regardless of vaccination status. We are hopeful that those in attendance either vaccinated, or unvaccinated will feel comfortable attending, and if not, we completely understand and respect the choice to celebrate with us from afar. An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present. COVID-19 is a contagious disease that could lead to severe illness, and could impact everyone differently, we encourage you to please consult with your primary care physician prior to traveling.
Currently, the City of Atlanta, and the State of Georgia do not require a negative test to enter either the Cathedral or St. Cecilia (restaurant) for the reception, however, for those of you traveling, to provide greater peace of mind, we would encourage everyone to please obtain a PCR test at least 3 days prior to the wedding. Especially with an increase in travel around the holiday(s) season -- we have provided a few links for potential reference below: https://mako.exchange/splash/GAmakotesting/ https://covid19.nj.gov/pages/testing If you have any more specific questions regarding COVID-19 and how best to safely attend, please feel free to email us @ va.schmidt.wedding@gmail.com
That is correct, in case you missed it on the invite, the dress code designation is: BLACK TIE Please feel free to use our event as an excuse to get dressed up. As Andrew would say, 'If you want to look like a Penguin -- now is the time -- GO FOR IT!" -- Happy to see all you beautiful people looking chic, think of this as New Years Eve 2.0, let's kick 2022 off right! In case you are in need of a tuxedo, please see our recommended partner here: https://theblacktux.com/
No one loves children more than we do [for real] and we LOVE your kiddos too (!!!), but thought you might like a night off! We kindly request adults only for the reception, please! -- If this presents any potential challenge for you, please let us know, happy to recommend local sitters for your little ones!
Atlanta - Harsfield-Jackson [ATL] [If you fly Private... Peachtree Dekalb [PDK] is also an option... But this likely does not apply to any of you... And if it does, we need to talk about some exciting new investment opportunities...]
Our event will be indoors, with the option to extend outside if the weather allows, January can be a bit of a toss up in the South! The last few years have looked a bit like this: 2020: 41 degrees 2021: 59 degrees 2022: Definitely 60 degrees and SUNNY! Coat check will be available at our reception if needed.
Yes -- Please note any food allergies/dietary restrictions on your RSVP card, and/or notify us [va.schmidt.wedding@gmail.com] of any food related allergy or dietary restriction(s), and we will work with the chef to accommodate.
We are THRILLED to share our love of food with you, and while it might be slightly unconventional, we want to 'free you' from having to choose, and then regret not getting the thing your neighbor got, that looks SO GOOD! [As happens at just about every wedding..] Rather than a wedding dinner, think of it more as a house party, we are hosting and celebrating YOU, and how special you are to us. Rest assured, we are going to have a variety of food in a similar way that we would eat together -- sharing a meal, some plated and some family style to make sure everyone leaves happy with full bellies! In the event that you have a dietary restriction or allergy, please contact us accordingly, and we will be happy to take care of you! o·ma·ka·se / ōməˈkäsā - a meal consisting of dishes selected by the chef.
We suggest utilizing a rideshare service [Uber/Lyft] However, for those inclined to drive, there are ample rental car companies, [National is our personal favorite] -- If you plan on driving to the wedding, parking in the MAIN parking deck adjacent to the Cathedral, [off Peachtree Way] and there will be self parking at St. Cecilia for the reception, however it is a very short walk from the Whitley.
Great question! The Cathedral suggests arriving [30 minutes prior] -- 1:30PM for our big day to start promptly at 2:00PM -- Understand that traffic in Atlanta can be unpredictable, we would encourage everyone to plan to arrive as close to after 1:30PM as you are able.
For those of you staying at the host hotel (The Whitley), we will be providing a private coach transport to/from Cathedral of Christ the King for the ceremony. Additionally, the reception is within walking distance, and after a short respite at your hotel, feel free to walk over to St. Cecilia for cocktails at 5pm. If you do not elect to take the shuttle, we do encourage you to utilize Uber/Lyft! Or if you drive yourself, please do so responsibly. In the event of inclement or cold/rainy weather, a ride share service from The Whitley to the restaurant should be ~$10.
Only Bernese Mountain Dogs, or small puppies are allowed. [But unfortunately they cannot come inside the church, so we will play with them outside] -- Since the weather will be beautiful!
We would imagine that most guests will arrive Friday [01/07] -- however if you are interested in arriving sooner, or staying later, we have a page FULL of things that you might find interesting, Atlanta is a wonderful city, with a variety of awesome neighborhoods and communities. Please feel free to stay as long as you would like. *NOTE* -- While we are on our honeymoon, Atlanta will be 11.75% less exciting while we are not here.
We do have a small rehearsal on Friday evening, but still would love to see you Friday night, please plan to join us for cocktails and a quick 'unofficial' get together around ~9pm at the Whitley Hotel Lobby bar. [More details to come...] Additionally, be sure to click around on the 'Things to Do' section of the website, for places we recommend checking out during your visit.
All day and all night!
TBD -- Queen Victoria is still deliberating... Unlikely, but official decree is pending. [Fortunately/unfortunately there is not a Michigan or Oregon football game for viewing]
