It was the shut down of 2020, start of the global pandemic. Erin had just started at the casino that February as a security officer while Austin was on his 3rd year as a dispatcher, 5th year with the casino in all. With the Casino shutting down for the first time since 1997, and security being one of the few departments left on property, no guests and lots of time to waste on patrols meant everyone got to know each other a little better. We started texting and hanging out outside work spite the pandemic and hit it off really well. In July Erin asked Austin out the day before Austin planned to, and she moved in with him by Aug.
Erin’s enlistment into the Air Force sparked the conversation about marriage between the two. It became a matter of “when” rather than “if”. Shortly after her return from bootcamp, on the 27th of May Austin popped the question on his favorite spot on the parkway, almost falling down the mountain in the process! He said it would’ve been a day sooner, and at the spot they had first shared a kiss, had Erin’s love for mac n’ cheese not collided with her intolerance for lactose that day.
