COVID-19 Update

As of May 3rd, 2020

We have been closely monitoring the evolving situation with COVID-19 and social distancing over the past few weeks. Thank you for your patience as we work through this! Erin and Tyler are still committed to being married at Our Lady of Mercy Church on May 30th, 2020. At present, we do not know what the capacity of the church will be based on the social distancing guidelines. We will update the website as we learn more. The State of Florida is initiating a phased reopening process and The Gasparilla Inn will be open to guests beginning May 15, including their golf club, beach club, pool facilities and restaurants. Therefore, we will welcome any of our friends and family who wish to celebrate with us this year, while accommodating all appropriate social distancing guidelines. Gasparilla Island is a picturesque remote getaway with few people and big vast beaches. It may be a welcome diversion for those willing to make it. Understanding the dynamic situation, the Inn has also eased their cancellation terms, so feel free to make your reservations now and decide as we get closer. The health and wellbeing of you and your family are of upmost importance to us, please make the best decision for you. We are excited to announce that we will have a 'celebration' at Gasparilla Inn on July 4th weekend of 2021. The town of Boca Grande is known for holding one of the most wholesome July 4th celebrations in the US, replete with a golf cart parade and fireworks on the beach. In addition to a full holiday activity schedule at the Inn, we will be hosting a private Beach Club party the night of Saturday July 3rd, with our amazing original band, Powerhouse: Next Generation. (Incidentally, Erin first met Tyler's parents on the Fourth of July on Gasparilla) We are so grateful to have such wonderful friends and family. We look forward to celebrating with you, in whichever fashion is best for your family. We will be posting more information about these celebrations soon!

How We Met

August 1998

It was the fall of 1998 - over 21 years ago - that we both moved into the same Freshman dorm at Vanderbilt. We quickly fell into the same friend group, sharing many of the same college experiences - study groups, road trips, and Formals. While we never dated in college, we shared an ambitious spirit and love of learning that would take us on different paths after graduation.

How We Reconnected

A Mutual Love of Adventure Travel

Throughout our 20s and early-30s, we both were set on a similar but varied path within the medical field - hers in becoming a Pediatric Neurosurgeon and his in entering the business of medical technology. As our careers blossomed, we remained single, knowing that fate would bring us 'The One' someday. We would have remained on our divergent paths if it wasn't for her Facebook post about climbing Mt Killimangaro in 2016, when Tyler reached out, expressing his desire to summit the African peak. While the timing wasn't right for him to join her on that trip, we did make plans to visit the Galapagos and trek to Machu Picchu the following year. it was during that amazing experience that the seeds of our relationship were planted.

The Proposal

December 30th, 2019

Embracing our passion for travel, we made plans to spend New Years in Paris - the City of Love. It was Erin's first time in the city, and we had booked a private tour of the Louvre in the morning. She also believed she had persuaded a reluctant Tyler to book a photo shoot around the city that afternoon. However, Tyler needed no persuading, having planned the proposal with the photographer for weeks. We started with photos at the Louvre, then went to the Palais Royal and the Bir Hakeim bridge. Had Erin had any hints of what to come, he waited until the very last location of the 2.5 hour photo shoot. We were along the Seine river, in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower, when Tyler knelt down on one knee and surprised Erin. With genuine shock and excitement, Erin said "Yes!!" For the rest of the trip, we celebrated around the City of Love with friends, and starting the daunting challenge of planning a wedding.

The Wedding

May 30th, 2020

We look forward to celebrating our marriage with our friends and family on the tranquil barrier island of Gasparilla and the Village of Boca Grande. Tyler's parents have owned a house on the island for over 15 years, and they are excited to share with you our little piece of paradise. The Ceremony will be at the quaint Our Lady of Mercy, and the Reception will be at the historic Gasparilla Inn.
