How we met

Persistence pays off

We get this question all the time - "A boy from Oklahoma and a girl from Jersey? How does that happen?" As it turns out, all it takes is a timely Twitter message and a couple months of persistence. Tyler was working at a news station in Eugene, Oregon, when Madison was about to graduate from college at Montclair State in New Jersey. She had recently visited Portland, and decided that Oregon is where she wanted to be after graduation. As a soon-to-be college graduate does, she was looking around for jobs, and found a small-market station in Eugene that peaked her interest. So, she takes to Twitter to message people that work there and get the news director's email address. As it turns out, nearly everyone's Twitter profiles were restricted, so she couldn't message them - except for Tyler's. She sends him a message (Tyler likes to say she slid into his DM's), saying she was looking to move to Eugene and work at that station, and asks Tyler to help her out. He said yes, absolutely! He puts in a good word with the ND, then wishes her good luck. A couple of weeks go by, and Tyler finds out that this girl from New Jersey named Madison is going to be hired as a reporter. So, he messages her on Twitter to congratulate her, and gives her his number, should she have any questions about the station or the area. Thirty minutes later, Madison texts Tyler to thank him and ask questions. To Tyler, this was a beautiful woman and future co-worker that was texting him, and he thought maybe one day, this could become something more. To Madison, Tyler was a friendly guy that helped her get her first job in TV news. As the weeks went on, they talked more and more. Nearly every day! A two hour phone call here; a Skype call there; multiple questions' from Madison's parents asking "who are you texting so much? Is it that Tyler guy?" Eventually, Tyler started to develop strong feelings towards Madison, and he decided to throw caution to the wind. Before they had even met, he invited her to his cousin's wedding later that year in Oklahoma. Some time later, he started telling her how he felt about her. She brushed it off at first, not really seeming interested. This was understandable, as she was just trying to move to Oregon to start her career. But as time drew closer for her to move, she started developing feelings too. Let's fast forward a few more weeks to the first time they were going to meet. Tyler took the day off work, and met up with Madison and her parents in Eugene. They all went to lunch together, then walked back to her apartment to get her car so they could drive to one of the area's numerous wineries. Madison and Tyler walked down to the parking garage to get Madison's car, and that is where they shared their first kiss. That was June 7, 2018. Now, they live in Nashville, TN, with their bratty little girl, Boomer, and they can't wait to have you join them to celebrate their wedding in the place they call home!
