It was the first day of college at the University of Maryland; we were all out in the courtyard outside of our dorm. For some reason, Marylanders like to identify themselves by the county they live in. Alex stood on a bench and shouted out, "Is anyone here from Carroll County?" Then I raised my hand and we talked about where we lived and where we went to high school. He asked me if I knew a girl who he met that went to my high school; I said, "Yes! She's my best friend!" The rest was history.
