We were drawn to Homewood the moment we saw it and are amazed by the history of the building! We wanted to share the history of the home: In 1904, Dr. Robert Carole came to Asheville from Duke University to build Highland Hospital. In 1927 Homewood was built as Dr. Carole's private home. The English Stone Manor design was influenced heavily by Dr. Carole's time at Duke University. In time, additions were made to the main house, which included a 1,500 square foot piano room, now know as the Ballroom, wrapped with cherry walls, and a stone turret. Homewood is located in Asheville's post-Victorian historic district of Montford. In its early years, Homewood was the home of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Carroll, who hosted the likes of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald and The Vanderbilts as Bela Bartok played Mrs. Carroll's grand piano in the Great Room.
Please see the "Travel" tab for suggestions and hotel blocks!
There is plenty of parking around the venue, and we suggest ride share for those who are coming from out of town and do not have a personal vehicle.
