Bethel - The Maine Mineral & Gem Museum is a cool place for our gem nerds! Also some cool shopping such as Philbrook Place, a great consignment and much more. Norway - The Alan Day Community Garden and lots of little businesses in downtown Norway including Fiber & Vine and the CO-OP. North Conway - It has it all. Bigger town with all the shops, food, entertainment and gear you could need.
Hikes, rivers, and lakes
Albany Mountain / Crocker Pond - One of our favorite hikes nearby! About 4.5 miles out and back. Make sure you continue to the right beyond the marker at the top for another half mile for a ridge hike with all the best views! Crocker Pond is a great place to swim afterwards and just a little down the road from Albany Mountain. Kezar falls gorge - Kinda secret spot with fun waterfall and hidden cave! Wild River - This beautiful river is located past Bethel in Gilead. Great place to hike along the river, swim, explore, paint, fly fish, sun basking etc. Virginia Lake - This is a hidden gem! Found off a logging road with no signage. This lake has a sandy beach and lots of privacy. White Mountain National Forest Hikes - There are so many amazing hikes in this section of national forest! Big and small. Sunday River - This is a beautiful river past Bethel with gorges and waterfalls. A favorite childhood spot of Emma's family. A cliff jumping spot is found here too!
