Ryleigh was a freshman in college at Mizzou when she decided to get on the ‘House Party’ app with a few of her friends. For those who do not know what this app is, it is essentially a large group FaceTime where anyone you are friends with can join in. It just so happened that the friend of Ryleigh’s who was hosting the ‘House Party’ also knew Trevor and he jumped on the call with them. Following that group call, Trevor messaged the mutual friend and said he thought Ryleigh was cute and wanted her number. This all transpired right before finals week and they would later hangout over Christmas break. It is important to note that Ryleigh’s mother (Angela) stalked Ryleigh to Trevor's house because she was convinced, he was a serial killer, LOL. I guess the rest is history.

Trevor planned a vacation for Ryleigh after she finally settled into her job at the Mayo Clinic. They debated on where they wanted to go, going back and forth between Santa Monica and Santa Barbara. Ultimately, they decided on Santa Barbara after Trevor “talked to an older man at the gym who used to live there.” As it got closer to the trip, Trevor mentioned that the older gym friend also strongly recommended some beautiful beaches to visit during the stay. Specifically, the friend recommended going to the Ritz-Carlton Baccara for drinks and a walk on the beach. Ryleigh thought nothing of this gym friend as Trevor is typically more social than her anyways. When the engagement day came, Ryleigh was somewhat suspicious of the entire situation. However, Trevor acted cool and seemed to be in no rush to make it to the Ritz at any certain time which threw Ryleigh off, majorly. When they got to the Ritz, Trevor, who rarely drinks, chugged 2 strong margaritas and became eager to get to the beach. They finally got down to the beach at sunset after getting lost on the property. They walked the beach about 30 yards and Ryleigh turned around to see Trevor down on one knee. Trevor had also planned a photographer to capture the moment. He told Ryleigh that the older man at the gym was completely fabricated to throw her off and keep her suspicions at bay. Trevor also planned a nice dinner afterwards at Bouchon – Santa Barbara in lieu of the special occasion.
