As all great modern love stories begin today, Travis and I met on Bumble. We had been talking for a week before we finally decided to meet- at the Rustic in Dallas. Friday afternoon comes around and I start to panic, I am beyond nervous to meet Travis. I'm not one to get nervous meeting new people, it usually doesn't bother me one bit. But there was something about meeting Travis that made me so nervous that I had to have friends come over to help me get dressed. After two hours of finally agreeing to an outfit, and a glass of wine to ease the nerves, I was ready to meet him. Now when I say Travis and I had been talking for a week, that was over text. So when I got a call from him before our date saying he had left and would be there in an hour, I was swooning when I heard his thick North Carolina southern accent for the first time. I actually had put him on speaker phone so my roommate could hear his strong southern twang. I arrived to the Rustic a bit early, to grab a drink before he arrived. I got a call from Travis asking where I was. I look up and see this big man in a dark gray North Face t-shirt, khaki pants and knock off Timberland boots strutting towards me. My heart skips, I grin from ear to ear, and I give him a hug (slightly spilling my drink in the process). I act like a fool for a solid ten minutes before I finally calm down, something about his demeanor made me so nervous. He's the type of person that you could sit and talk with for hours on end and never get bored. He is someone you want to spend every second of every day with. His confidence and humbleness wrapped up all in one package is not something you come across very much. I knew there was something special about Travis, the way he looked at life, the way he carried himself. He is the type of person that you don't want to lose, someone you fight for and can grow with. He is someone that is honest and loyal, someone who loves the Lord with all his heart.
I was told that we were going to Colorado for a few days, but it turns out we were headed to Napa for a surprise couples trip. The men had “planned a surprise trip for the girls” (everyone knew what was happening but me) and we all acted surprised when we landed and saw “Welcome To Napa Valley” in the airport. We arrived at our third winery of the day, Amizetta, and were welcomed with big smiles and a glass of wine. At the point in the tour where our guide was explaining the different types of grapes they use, our tour guide said we were welcome to go off and try some of the grapes straight from the vine. Travis pulled on my arm to go, but since the guide was still talking I didn’t budge. Then I see Ashton beeline it for the grapes and I followed her lead and walked to the closest grape vine. Travis, however, had a different plan. He keeps walking and passes vine after vine until we were far from the group. He stops, takes my wine glass and places it on the ground. He starts talking about how he’s not a perfect man but he knows how he feels about me and that I make him a better person. Next thing I know he is on his knee and I start crying and laughing and no words can escape my mouth. I am nodding my head yes for what seems like 5 minutes and he goes “is that a yes”. I finally blurt out “YES” as I am able to partially collect myself and he holds me in his arms since I can hardly stand up I’m in so much shock. I could never have asked for a more perfect proposal!
