Enjoy a cocktail on the roof of The Grand Adirondack right on Main Street. Fabulous views of Mirror Lake and the High Peaks Range.
Great food and strong drinks! Think elevated Pub Grub. If Josh or Emily are bartending, tell them we sent you! Beware the hill on your walk back home.
A three-floor restaurant and brewery serving pub grub and their own selection of beer (which can either taste really great or really...local). You can't go wrong with the burger! Right at the base of Mirror Lake, just across from the public beach.
Right on Main Street overlooking the Olympic Skating Oval. You can pop in and see the Herb Brooks Arena which famously hosted the 'Miracle on Ice'! They still host a myriad of events from figure skating, to ice hockey tournaments and curling.
Rails to Trails is a program which saw the transition of old railway lines into functional recreational trails. You can rent bikes from a shop on Main Street and ride the 20ish miles from Lake Placid to Saranac Lake! Don't worry, the trail ends at RiverTrail Beerworks in Saranac (but don't forget - you still have to bike home!)
Delicious BBQ right on Main Street - but hard to get a seat! The Smoked Rueben is a favorite. Put your name in early if you can.
We're getting married here, you may as well play a round of golf here too! There are three courses to choose from, two 18's and one 9. You can't go wrong with the views on any of them! They're reasonably priced for both tee times and rentals, and they're generally available on short notice.
If you're brave enough to hike Whiteface, godspeed. The rest of you can drive all the way up! It's $20 for driver + passenger, and an additional $10 for each head in the car. There are gorgeous vistas to stop at all along the mountain, but nothing beats the view of Lake Placid from the summit. The parking lot takes you nearly all the way up, and you can get to the summit by walking the last quarter mile or taking an elevator up. Either way, we recommend wearing sneakers.
Just shy of a 5 mile round trip with some difficult terrain, this is one of the most well known and beautiful hikes in the area. While it's an approachable peak, it's still a challenge and not for the faint of heart! If you tackle Cascade, you'll have earned lunch at Big Slide Brewery on the drive back into town.
Mount Jo is a great hike if you really want to say you hiked but you're not really a hiker - you know? It's about a 2 mile loop with a 600 foot elevation. The trailhead is just a 15 minute drive from Lake Placid.
Cobble Hill is not quite a mountain hike, but a little more challenging than a walk around the lake. It's great if you want to do something in ~nature~, but you also don't want to get in your car and drive into the wilderness. You can pick up the trailhead right on Mirror Lake Drive, and then it's about a 1.5 mile round trip. With 480 feet of elevation, you still get a beautiful view at the end!
From candles to soaps to lotions, all of the products at Pure Placid on Main Street smell divine. You can give them a call or stop in to set up DIY candle making at their Candle Bar - which is of course a BYO experience!
