Andrea & Tom first met through mutual friends in Malmö back in 2013 and continued to run into each other at various parties and events during the following years. In 2016, Andrea moved to Los Angeles and Tom went to university. Separated by the Atlantic Ocean, they did not see each other again until 2019, when Tom finally asked Andrea out on a date. Since then, they have been inseparable, even when spending time apart.

Two months after Andrea and Tom had bought their mutual apartment together in Stockholm Tom was off to a three-year posting in Burkina Faso. A month after his departure, Andrea was sitting on an airplane, heading for the Sahel, unknowingly smuggling a wedding ring, hidden by Tom's mother Anne, inside a book. On a pleasant September evening, just at the end of the rainy season, when the temperatures are still bearable, Andrea and Tom arrived by car at the Hamerkopf Manor, a Tudor-style castle built by an eccentric Frenchman in the burkinabé countryside. Enjoying a candle-lit dinner in the courtyard of the castle, Tom finally asked Andrea to marry him.
