Tiffany and I met while working as lifeguards after she moved to Houston. As soon as we met, I had a strong feeling we could be soul mates. Initially, that gut feeling wasn't mutual. Several years later my escape from the friend zone was initiated by a carefully crafted, well-timed text message, and here we are!
After 7 years of friendship, he sent that well-timed text and I basically replied with: "well, I'm not saying no, but I'm not sure I'm at a yes yet either." Then a week later, "OK, we can give it a try." :D So we went on our first "official" date to the Cullen Sculpture Garden here in Houston, where I promptly climbed the largest tree in sight, lol. The adventure of transitioning from a foundation of deep friendship into romance has been such a joy and full of life and laughter. Six years later, we went back to the Sculpture Garden where he proposed under that same tree where it all began.
You may hear us refer to each other by these names, or see them written on some of our wedding decor. Bear got his nickname as a child, originally "Bear Bear," it has now matured into a more befitting singular, warm, snuggly, all-encompassing hug of a name. Ger - short for "Gerald the Giraffe" references the main character in the children's book "Giraffes Can't Dance," a role which Tiffany portrayed in a children's ballet created during her time performing with Ad Deum Dance Company. In the ballet and also in real life she resembles Gerald who has incredibly long wobbly limbs, and is always trying to dance but constantly tripping over his own feet. :D
