So we were going camping in the Uinta mountain range and planned on hiking all day with my family. Thomas & I set up camp and my family came up. We all drove higher into the mountains to a beautiful trail at 9000 feet. We ate lunch on the trail, hiked 6 miles, saw a beautiful lake, and returned to the car. We drove back to camp and everyone was having a wonderful time. You might not know my brother Liam, but he can be trying at times. When we got back to the campsite he was being Liam and my parents ended up having to leave early. Suddenly alone at the campsite, Thomas and I decided that we would make supper and then find another trail to hike. While I cooked supper Thomas took a nap (probably exhausted from his first mountain hike). When the food was ready I called Thomas over. He came out of his tent, walked right past me and over to a rock where he promptly threw up. Turns out altitude sickness hits Thomas pretty hard! I immediately went into packing mode. If he was sick he was going to be no help taking down the gear and repacking (tents, hammocks, chairs, & the dishes from supper). So I wanted to get started before the sun fell behind the mountains. But Thomas insisted that he felt better and we should stay a while longer. Aaaaaand then he threw up again. Okay. Thats it. We are leaving! He reluctantly agreed to leave soon, but suggested a picture by the river first. WE HAD ALREADY TAKEN A PICTURE BY THE RIVER! Are you kidding?! We need to leave! But he insisted, so I let him take my picture. So we can go now, right? Then he says “woah, look at that rock up river!” “....Thomas...ITS A ROCK! We need to get you home!” But he kept insisting that I turn around to look upstream! So I did. And when I turned back around he was down on one knee! He managed to get the words out, even though it was clear from his voice that he was nervous. After a long hug (I couldn’t stop squeezing him) he finally whispered, “We can go home now. This just had to happen in nature!”
