From Homeroom to Jumping the Broom, A Lifetime of Love ... When Janelle and Justin first exchanged glances in their 7th grade homeroom, they were bonded by the alphabetical placements of their last names. Who could have guessed that one day they would share a last name? Love is friendship set on fire and Janelle and Justin’s love symbolizes that. It may have started as witty banter in the hallways of Belleville Middle School, developing into a thoughtful, honest friendship through high school and college; when their friendship deepened throughout their time at Rutgers University, they both started to feel that they were meant to be in each other’s lives forever, but they both had to grow separately to be able to come together in love later. Then in 2016, after a birthday weekend in the Hamptons -- it happened-- their friendship ignited into a love that was undeniable-- a friendship set on fire. When friendship is the foundation to love, that love is strong and everlasting. Janelle and Justin’s individual stories are inextricably linked: one is not complete without the other. They have had the opportunity to shape each other, to push each other to be better, and to grow together for more than half their lives: a privilege most couples only have after saying “I do”.

Home is Where the Heart Is ... Justin knew the proposal had to be perfect, how do you exemplify -- through a single moment-- the fact that someone is your home and heart personified? And while it was perfect, Janelle knew that it would be hard to top the type of unconditional love she felt from Justin daily. Justin proposed to Janelle in their new home in June of 2020 amid a global pandemic. Justin included some of Janelle’s closest family and friends in the moments leading up to the proposal and in the festivities that followed, but the moment was only theirs to share. Justin incorporated components from all of their five years together through a thoughtful scavenger hunt that captured how deep their love and friendship spanned. While Janelle traveled through their home reading the letters and clues Justin had carefully planned for her, Justin anxiously awaited her downstairs in their living room. As Janelle read through the last clue, filled with emotion, she came down the stairs to find her forever love down on one knee. The reality is that they both had said yes-- yes to commitment, yes to love, yes to a future together-- a long time before that day in June, but that moment solidified it, in a moment that was as perfect as this pair-- it would be Janelle and Justin forever.
