The Proposal

04.19.2024

Sarah's POV: It was a Friday night. I knew Nick and I were going to dinner. I knew he had a ring. I was under the impression that because his Mom was out of town, he would not be proposing that day. I knew we were going to dinner at the place where we had our first date and that it was in Raleigh. This man dressed to the NINES. Black button down, best jeans he owns, with his nice dress shoes, hair freshly cut.... complete dreamboat. So, I made sure I was also somewhat decent looking, hair done, make up, pretty dress etc. We start heading to Raleigh and we were just doing our usual full on concert performance of songs together. We started to slow down, and I noticed we weren't near the place I had remember our 1st date being at. I asked him and he said, "Just trust me" so I did. A few minutes later, we pulled into Pullen Park. I asked him what we were doing, and he said, "We have some time to kill before dinner." And again, I trusted him. We got out and started walking around and pointed out all the stuff that was completely different than from when we were there in December for Holiday Express. We ended up at the Gazebo where we had taken our Christmas photo with Kenzie. We started to reminisce on that night and Kenzie. I told him I was so sad I couldn't see her that day because she had studied really hard for a spelling test and made a 100% on it but due to custody, I would have to wait to celebrate her hard work on Sunday. At that moment he smiled and said "you might wanna turn around". There was Kenzie running towards me. She hugged me really hard and after a minute she looked up and said "you might wanna turn around." & there he was, down on one knee, ring box open and he said "Will you marry me?" and in complete shock I was silent. for a solid minute and half. yes, me. COMPLETELY SPEECHLESS. Then I realized I hadn't said anything, so I quickly responded with YES!!!!! and here we are planning on our forever. Nick's POV: I had been planning my proposal for a while. Sarah kept trying to call when I was going to do it. So I devised a plan to keep taking her to fancy dinners or big events, that way she did not know when it was coming. I also knew that due to a custody schedule with Kenzie I had to work a plan out ahead of time. So I got her best friend in on it and she helped me arrange to have Kenzie and even helped me get Sarah’s nails done. It just so happened that the day I planned it my mother also went out of town. Just a few days before that Friday Sarah even expressed to me how she knew I wouldn’t propose because my mom was out of town. I just went along with and told her “It’ll happen when it’s supposed to”, inside I was jumping for joy though. The day of I told her we were going to dinner and got dressed up, and made sure she was wearing her dress she wanted to wear for the proposal. I made sure our friends were there and waiting with Kenzie. However we almost didn’t make it, Sarah kept making sarcastic remarks about not being engaged yet. Meanwhile in my pocket was the ring box! I wanted to throw it at her before we left. When we got there I could tell she was thinking something was off but I did my best to hide it. Not only hide it but also our friends as we walked in a section where I could see them. When we got to the gazebo at Pullen Park, I waited until Kenzie was running up to us and told Sarah to turn around. It was perfect timing because she had just told me how she was sad she didn’t get to see her today. When Sarah turned around I got the ring box out and got down on one knee. Kenzie was perfect and waited until I was ready to tell Sarah to turn around. When Sarah turned around she saw me there and then froze and covered her face. She left me there waiting… and waiting… I almost thought she was going to say no before she finally said “YES!”. I finally got to put a ring on her finger and have dinner with our friends. And now I am finally getting to plan forever with the girl of my dreams.
