Technically, we met in high school at Hill-Murray in 2008, but didn't run in the same crowds. Nick was more of a straight laced, rule-follower, while Bridget was...not. We both went to college in the cities, Nick at Hamline, and Bridget at the University of Minnesota, and often ran into each other at some popular local establishments. We went our separate ways for a few years, both living out of state in some very exciting places including Alabama and Iowa. In 2020, the Covid pandemic brought us both home for extended periods of time, which is where we rekindled and started dating seriously. Our relationship has survived 2 years of long distance, a hockey coach and a PhD student's schedules, and meeting the needs of a demanding chocolate lab. So based on that, I think we should be able to handle anything!
A couple of nights before Christmas, we went out for annual Chirstmas dinner date, which usually includes a lot of steak and martinis. This year was extra special as it was a beautiful -30 degrees outside and we decided to walk to dinner from our hotel. Nick was adamant that we go on a walk to the Stone Arch Bridge after dinner since he had never been there. Bridget thought he was insane (but also maybe up to something) and agreed as she's never been one to turn down a reason to go to Stone Arch. In the romantic wind and bitter cold, Nick got down on one knee and asked Bridget to marry him, of course she said yes!!! The walk home was much warmer and more exciting!!
