It was back in 2012, when I arrived to Valdosta State University for my freshman orientation. Well if you know me, then you should know that I'm alwayssss late. My family and I were late and lost, but then came Isaiah to save the day (as always). He just so happened to be an Orientation leader and helped my family and I with directions on where to go. He then realized that he knew my family and I from church fellowships back home in Albany, Ga. Isaiah's family church used to fellowship with my family. But listen, I did not remember Isaiah at all. How ironic that we both attended the same church services but never noticed one another. Isaiah was very kind and even ended up helping me create my schedule at the end of orientation. We then connected and began following each other on social media. My first semester started and it was extremely tough. There were times I wanted to pack up and move back home. I used to tweet about it allll the time. So one time Isaiah slid into my dm's (lol), only to give me advice on how to have a better college experience. Instantly we just clicked and began texting all the time. I kind of looked up to him as a big brother (eww, lol). And although I was not looking for a relationship at the time, Isaiah and I talked all day... everyday and I thought we were just going to be best friends...but I just fell in love with how genuine, thoughtful and kind he was. He gave the best advice and held my hand through some tough situations in just a few months of knowing him. After that, I was ready to get married, lol. But I didn't even know if he felt the same way about me. So I tried to shoot my shot and boy oh boy.... lets just say that's another story for another day. Hahahaaa. We ended spending the entire summer of 2014 together and have been inseparable ever since. In August 2014 he asked me to be his girlfriend and in July 2022 he asked me to be his wife. Although we are complete opposites and different in so many ways, we have a special bond, a special kind of love and we definitely balance each other out. He’s my best friend and soulmate. He makes me feel free, happy and protected. I truly believe we were made for each other.
Let me set the scene. Summer 2012, June if I'm not mistaken. It's hot. I'm wearing a red V-State polo, khaki shorts, and some nice Nike running shoes. My hair was at the famous "bob length" and I weighed less than I do now. Among the MANY hats I wore at VSU, I was an orientation leader at the time and if you know anything about Candace (and her family), you know being late will come before they arrive. Candace arrived to her freshman orientation late and lost. But there was a hero there to save the day (as always). I just so happen to be assigned to round up the stragglers and ended up helping Candace and her family. As I walked with them, I realized that they looked familiar. (Years prior, our families worshiped together on various occasions at church in Albany,GA. But, Candace did not remember ya boy at all). Ironically, I was also assigned to her major group and assisted her registration for class. From then, the seed was planted before either of us knew. Fast forward! Shorty went from calling me her big brother, to secretly liking me, to not-so-secretly fighting for my love with a close friend (I love that story, lol). She visited Spring Meadow a few times in the summer and never left. Literally, I can see her as I type this. On August 30, 2014 at 5:45pm I asked Candace to be my girlfriend, and on July 23, 2022 at 7:30pm I asked her to be my forever. Y'all pray for me, I don't know if I'm crazy or in love, lol.
