Come away with us

We met at the University of Iowa, but we aren't sure of the exact date or moment. After many years of Meagan staring at the back of Mike's head in chemistry class and mutual friends, we landed in pharmacy school together. There were many attempts to push us together as a couple that were resisted for a long time, but eventually, Mike downloaded the Vivino app and figured out the way to Meagan's heart - wine. Eventually, we decided to take the leap to start dating!

The proposal was quite a saga for Mike. After coordinating with Meagan's brother, Andrew, Mike flew to Chicago while Meagan was away to ask her parents permission to propose. This surprise trip was kept a total secret from Meagan until AFTER the engagement. Cathy and Greg joyfully approved and delicious steaks and wine were consumed, then the real planning began. Mike planned no less than 5 proposal trips, but COVID-19 unfortunately canceled most of them. Meagan had always dreamed of traveling to Alaska and Mike decided to go for it. Mike told Meagan about the trip to Alaska just a few days before the trip and the pandemic travel stress set in. Fortunately, after an early morning COVID test and lots of packing, we were off to Anchorage, AK! We landed amongst a beautiful Alaska sunset and drove a few hours to our AirBnB to enjoy a stress-free, first day of vacation the next day. We got ready for the first of many hikes of the trip and Mike kept asking Meagan, "Are you sure you're going to wear that? You don't want to dress up a bit?" At the top of the trails, we searched for a nice spot for our favorite snack; meat, cheese, and wine, and Mike started to play around with his drone. A few minutes later, the camera was filming, the drone was spiraling around us, and Mike was on one knee! Meagan said, "YES!" and the rain started to come down. We "floated" down the mountain drinking champagne and talking all about the rest of the trip and calling our loved ones to share the news. We spent the rest of the week in Alaska exploring its picturesque landscape and talking about our future!
