In 2012, a mutual friend went to visit Trevor in Denmark where he was studying abroad. This friend introduced Trevor to Brett through a Skype call while she was in Ohio. While Trevor was in Denmark, they maintained conversation via facebook messenger. After Trevor returned to the states a few years later, they both began college as friends. Reconnecting sophomore year, they decided to begin a relationship that would include many long car rides to visit each other and years of making long distance work!
In the beginning of 2020, we decided to move in together in Houston, Texas. Taking precautions during the pandemic, Brett quarantined for 2 weeks before moving to Texas. On June 23rd, 2020 Brett made her way down to Texas, and a short time later Trevor and Brett found themselves back in Ohio due to the safety concerns of COVID-19 in the Houston area. As discouraging as the move back to Ohio was, on July 5, 2020 Brett and Trevor were to celebrate their anniversary. Waking up to mimosas for breakfast, Trevor insisted they take a walk on the path Brett had dreaded walking every morning during her quarantine before moving to Texas. As they were walking on the path, they stopped at a bridge where Trevor had planned to pop the question, but Brett made the comment of how stinky the water was, so he decided that was not the right place. (Good job Brett!) They continued their walk and as they turned a corner, Trevor pulled the “Look over there” stunt and Brett fell for it, only to turn around to Trevor on one knee asking Brett to spend the rest of her life with him. She happily said YES!!! As they returned home, Brett was surprised to see her Friends and Family at the house with balloons and signs congratulating them on the engagement. After many rough, unplanned weeks, everything seemed to be looking up from there.
