One summer night in 2014, Nick was waiting in a car stall at a Sonic Drive-In after their marching band's performance when Stephanie arrived and was looking to cut in front of the 80 other band kids waiting to order. They ordered and received their food, walked back to the buses, and parted ways until the Wednesday of the last week of the summer, when Nick asked to borrow a pair of Stephanie's pink shorts (because on Wednesdays we wear pink!) and rekindled the flame from Sonic. Three days later, the two spent their entire last day exploring downtown Indianapolis and saw their first Marvel movie, Guardians of the Galaxy, together. The next morning, their summer tour ended and the two said their goodbyes . . . not knowing that they would be reunited soon.

Stephanie had her suspicions but thought that it was too early for the proposal. Before departing for Thanksgiving Break, she told her students she was wondering if it was going to happen -- little did she know that one of her students already knew about it and had known for weeks (kudos to that 13 year old for keeping such a big secret). In the moments leading up to the proposal, Stephanie almost caused them to arrive late and Nicholas spent the car ride avoiding speeding tickets and reciting his speech, prepared in Spanish, to himself. It was a beautiful, scenic, and special moment that no amount of suspicion could have prepared her for.
