Jack and Gabi met in September 2013 at the beginning of their sophomore year at Fairfield University. Even though they had lived three floors apart during their freshman year, the two didn't cross paths until they lived in Loyola Hall the following year. Loyola was one of the dorms on campus that offered a Residential College Program, designed to foster community within the residence hall. Each member of Loyola's Ignatian Residential College program was randomly assigned to a mentor group which would gather monthly to discuss academic and social life. As Gabi sat in the Kelley Center, waiting for the first meeting to begin, a young man walked into the room and casually asked, "is this the mentor meeting?" The pair developed crushes on each other almost instantly and began dating in December of that year. After seven years together, Jack and Gabi are overjoyed to begin this next chapter and can't wait to see what the future holds!
Jack and Gabi took advantage of the long holiday weekend in February of 2020 by driving up to Lake Placid, NY. The weekend getaway began on Friday, February 14, with a romantic Valentine's Day complete with complimentary bubbly from their rustic hotel and a delicious dinner at a charming bistro in town. On Saturday, the morning began with ice skating in the Herb Brooks Arena where the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey Team defeated the Soviet Union. The rest of the day was spent viewing the Olympic museum, dog sledding around Mirror Lake and sampling the area's signature wine and beers. On the last full day of their trip Jack and Gabi filled the afternoon with an array of activities. The day consisted of bobsledding, riding the gondola up Whiteface mountain and enjoying craft cocktails and tapas on a cozy patio outfitted with fire pits. For dinner, Jack made reservations at a restaurant called The View inside the Mirror Lake Inn. From their lakeside table, Jack and Gabi could make out the twinkle lights shining off of the frost-tipped trees outside. After the entrées were taken, the waiter came over to present the dessert menus. Jack then asked the waiter if he could take their photo which was the first sign that something was amiss seeing as Jack never initiates photos. After passing off his phone, Jack turned around and started to get down on one knee which immediately prompted Gabi to utter something along the lines of, "No. What are you doing?" Undeterred, Jack proceeded with the proposal. Now would be a great time to interject that neither Jack nor Gabi remembers what was said other than "will you marry me," and "yes," but the two were met with cheers from the other patrons dining in the room with them. Glasses of congratulatory champagne were whisked onto the table to accompany dessert which included well wishes written in chocolate. After dinner, the two headed back to their hotel to pop some more bubbly and share the exciting news with their family and friends.
