Joey and Sarah became friends in middle school. Throughout their time at Hempfield, they shared the same classes, friend groups, and even sports. They remained friends and enjoyed their teenage years separately until Joey caught feelings in the 11th grade. They both continued to date other people, but it was becoming increasingly obvious that Joey wanted more than friendship with Sarah. Eventually, they were both single so Sarah decided to give him a chance. He asked her on their first date at the Olive Garden and shortly after that night, Sarah knew he was more than a friend.
If you know our friend group, you know that we have to plan things MONTHS in advance to accommodate everyone's schedule. In May of 2021, Sarah texted the gang about an end of summer beach trip- little did she know she would be planning the weekend of her proposal. We settled on the last weekend in September in North Wildwood and Joey immediately started planning the proposal. Fast forward to 9/24/21 and we were all getting ready to go to dinner. There was a beautiful sunset that evening so someone suggested that the couples get pictures by the bay. Everyone agreed but the couples started bailing out until it was Joey & Sarah, Ian & Nora, and our photographer, Carm. We walked to this beautiful spot by the bay and Ian & Nora were up first. After they finished, Joey and Sarah were up. Carm had them doing multiple poses until they couldn't think of any more. The next thing Sarah knew, Joey said "I have one more" and dropped down on one knee. Shocked and sobbing, she said yes. They walked back to their Air BnB where they were greeted by a decorated house, their families, and their closest friends. We celebrated at the house until it was time for dinner at an incredible Italian restaurant in Cape May.
