Kaitlyn met Kyle in Garden Grove, California at an early age. Her older sister, Holly went to grade school with Kyle. Holly and Kyle both shared the same friend group and the Olson residence was always a popular hangout spot for them. Kaitlyn's family moved to The Big Island of Hawai'i in 2004. Kaitlyn and Holly would constantly come back to California to visit, mostly for Disneyland trips, that Kyle was always there for. In 2006, Kyle got invited by the Olson's to stay with them in Hawai'i for the summer. They were very close friends (Platonically, of course!) and went on a ton of adventures together from going to the beach, trips around the island, and even up to Mauna Kea to see the snowfall. Shortly after Kaitlyn moved back to California in 2016, Kyle asked her out on a date which was when their real adventure began. They went on trips from Florida to Napa Valley and continued these memories when they welcomed their beautiful daughter, McKenna Elyse in August of 2017. It wasn't long until they were taking McKenna to Disneyland and Hawai'i, just like they did together as kids.
Surprise, it wasn't a surprise! Just like the many unconventional things in their lives, the proposal was not a surprise. At a family gathering on Labor Day in 2016, a conversation with Kaitlyn's grandfather Gene had come up about marriage. He made it clear that if we were planning to get married that it would be an honor to have Norma, Kaitlyn's grandmothers' engagement ring. So on March 30th, 2019, They skipped the proposal and went straight to an engagement. They picked up her engagement ring from getting reset and resized and announced it to their closest friends and family. We're so excited to celebrate this next chapter in our lives with you, See you in Long Beach!
