Bobby's story: It was a cold dark January when I joined a pool league. I was put onto "The Hashbrowns", a team that had some girl who was not very good, but was spunky, fun, and just a touch wild, with an electric personality. She ended up being in charge of the team and I finally built up the courage to ask her out, but it wasn't to be at that time. We grew to be great friends over the next few years, until, finally, I had my chance and I took it. Look where we are now. Jessica' story: I was just learning how to play pool when I joined the league, so I wasn't very good then (tbf, not much better now). I was put onto a team with a group of guys who taught me a lot about playing, but the best of them was a tall guy with the cutest tiny curls in his hair. We became friends, and although I was seeing someone else at the time, I knew that if I ever needed anything, I could count on Bobby. When that relationship ended, and I tried to move past the break up, I ended up spending more time practicing pool, and Bobby was always there to help. I came to realize that he could be something more, and I guess I was right.
In 2022, we were on two different pool teams, and both of our teams qualified for the world championship in Las Vegas. Since we would be in Vegas immediately following our five year anniversary, we decided to celebrate in Vegas with a nice dinner. Figuring out what time that dinner would be was difficult, since we didn't know when we would be playing. Luckily, we were both free on Saturday night, so we made our reservations and headed out to dinner. In the middle of dinner, Bobby gets a call from his best friend and teammate. Bobby immediately gets very serious and excuses himself to talk with the friend. When he comes back, he apologizes and says something about that guy being too excited about being in Vegas. We finish dinner and head back to the hotel, when he mentions needing the bathroom, but every single one was closed, so we had to head to the room. When we get to the door, we hear noises from inside, and Bobby says that Jessica left the TV on (spoiler: she didn't). He drops his keys, has to pick them up, and he's talking so loud. He finally gets the door open, and, as we enter, Jessica is confused by the balloons and steamers in the doorway. She sees someone roll across the floor from the bed to the dresser and someone's head appears and disappears from behind the half wall. A streamer pops out from behind the bed, and, confused, Jessica turns to Bobby who was suddenly on his knee next to her. A surprise proposal! Our teammates pop out from their hiding spots, with streamers and cameras, champagne and shots. Turns out Bobby had planned this surprise proposal, and the phone call was to get his teammate into the room to set up the decorations, a very funny parallel to an earlier call to Jessica for Bobby. Surrounded by our friends, supported by our parents, we are excited to enter into our forever.
