I visited UAC for their anniversary weekend in August 2010. At the time, I truly hated visiting other churches because I was too comfortable with my own. I was not one to step too far out of my comfort zone and this pushed me far out of it. The anniversary services came and went. I do not remember if I even gave them a second thought until I received a friend request on Facebook. Guess who it was? Lj Barrett. I had never met him before. I remembered seeing him on the keyboard during the services at UAC and so I thought, sure why not? Request granted. He was just some guy that played the keyboard from UAC. No big deal, right? But then, not too long after, I received a Facebook message titled.... Wait for it...WAIT FOR IT.... "Irdk". Yes, Lj sent me a Facebook message titled, "Irdk". For those of you that are unsure, "irdk" stands for "I really don't know". I found that to be so amusing. It actually made me giggle. I cannot even recall what the body of the message said! Anyway, the rest is history. Here we are now; Best friends embarking on a journey of love. Who else can I thank but God? No one.
I’ve been going to UAC all my life. About two weeks before my church’s anniversary in 2010, I remember that I told God “I need a girl that will challenge me..someone that is different from everyone else!”. I prayed that prayer for two weeks straight. Then came August 2010, UAC’s anniversary service. For me, it was just like any other anniversary weekend; praise and worship, playing the piano and preaching. Each night was just the same ole same ole up until one night I saw this family walking inside the sanctuary. I saw this beautiful girl walking down with her mom and three little girls (whom I’ve come to realize were her nieces). But my reaction? I was in awe! While playing the keyboard! I turned to my friend and asked “Who is that?!?”. He had no clue. I didn't know where she came from or what her name was, but all I kept saying was “She is beautiful!!”. To top it all off, she can sing!!! After the conference, I was on facebook and I started to notice something very interesting as I was scrolling down my timeline. I started to see a couple of pictures/videos of the girl with some people that I know! Mann!!..I was so hyped! I knew her name now. Without any hesitations I sent that friend request! Ohhh yes!! She accepted!! Great!!...oh no! Wait! I didn’t know what to say or how to approach her. Should I be all sophisticated or chill like or what?!..So after overthinking it for awhile, I sent a Facebook message titled “IRDK”. It didn’t feel forced; it felt like we knew each other since the sandbox days. I prayed for someone to be different, and God truly answered my prayers! Eight years later we’re now best of friends who are entering into a new chapter together as one. With God all things are possible!
