How We Met

Melissa's Side

After a few years of online dating, I was ready to give up. But I decided to give it another go and now I can't believe I'm writing about our story on our Wedding Website! Kyle and I met through the Hinge Dating app. We connected and what I noticed most about Kyle was his lengthy responses. I was surprised to finally be talking with an online connection who actually responded in sentences! Since Kyle was covering a sports event when we connected, he wanted to wait a couple of weeks before we met. We spent that time really getting to know each other and after two long weeks, we decided to go out on our first date. Kyle was a true gentlemen. He picked me up, opened the car door for me and because of COVID, we decided to have a picnic at the San Leandro Marina. He surprised me with Halal guys because I was craving it and because I had ordered it recently but the order was wrong. He also brought dessert, BOBA BARS! I couldn't believe he remembered. What attracted me the most about Kyle was his attentiveness and his care for me. I also love what he does and so happy that he has a passion for his job. I can't believe we met during a pandemic, but also can't believe how comfortable and easy he makes me feel. I'm sure the pandemic was rough on many people and I definitely experienced my many challenges, but was very thankful for Kyle who stood by me through it all, supported me, loved me, and cared for me. I love how he loves my family, friends and Berkeley. I'm so blessed to have met my person. Love you Kyle!

How We Met

Kyle's Side

One cold and foggy morning in San Francisco on Aug 7, 2020, just before 7AM, I was walking to the 12th tee box at TPC Harding Park during the 2nd round of the 2020 PGA Championship when I received a match notification on the dating app, Hinge. Let me repeat that, 7AM, seven in the morning, that's before 8am/9am/10am!! Most people know, I am not a morning person and if it wasn't for golf, I would be waking up closer to when the sun sets. 😁 So, did the timestamp of her match notification come as a little red flag? Yes, it did. But, the golf tournament was closed to spectators and had plenty of alone time so decided to make Melissa my "digital pen pal." Our conversations were a lot of fun and wanted to meet Melissa in person but I held off for two weeks because I was at my first sporting event since the pandemic started and didn't want to possibly expose her. During the two week quarantine, she had mentioned that she recently gotten her Halal Guys order wrong and loved Boba Bars. When I asked her out, I decided on a picnic to keep it outdoors (pandemic style date). On the way to the date, I drove to 99 Ranch to pick up Boba Bars and placed them inside a cooler bag with ice, then drove to Halal Guys to pick up our food. After, I drove to her house to pick her up like an Uber driver because she wanted me to text that I was there instead of knock/ring the door bell because she didn't want to excite her dog, Berkeley. We drove to the San Leandro Marina and enjoyed the sunset while eating Halal Guys on a blanket on top of the grass field, romantic points! 😂 After we finished eating our food, I decided to bring out the cooler bag and reached inside to find the melted Boba Bars! đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™‚ïžBut, she was a good sport and we drank the Boba Bars "Go-Gurt" style...I feel extremely blessed to have her by my side. She has been my #1 supporter since the beginning. The little thoughtful gestures to show how much she loves me makes me feel special. I can’t wait to marry Disney’s #1 fan!
