King Street is the main shopping street in Charleston. From larger brands, to quaint mom and pop shops, King Street does not disappoint. Some of the bride and grooms local favorites: -Finicky Filly (303 King Street). Not only is it Taylor's place of employment, but you can find great brands and meet the shop dog Eloise -Jordan Lash (305 King Street) Mens store owned by 2 brothers, born and raised in Charleston. Not only do they have a great selection, but they are great guys! -Candlefish (71 Wentworth Street) Whether you love candles or not, this is a great local spot to check out. They even offer candle making classes with BYOB! -The Skinny Dip (345 King Street) Their upstairs is where its at! Check out clothing, gifts and more from local brands. They even have a bar and outdoor patio where people sip on their famous "frose"
Sullivans Island is an adoroable beach town right across the bridge from Mount Pleasant. Taylor and Phil love to spend days at the beach on Sullivans Island, followed by a casual dinner at one of the many amazing restaurants. Park on any of the side streets and walk down any of the access paths to the beach. Enjoy a walk on the wide stretch of beach. Some days you can even see the wind surfers doing flips in the waves! After a nice walk on the beach, head over to any of the restaurants. Most of them are casual and people can be found wearing bathing suit coverups and baseball caps. Some of Taylor and Phil's favorite restaurants are Home Team BBQ (bbq, mac and cheese, tacos), Poes Tavern (burgers and apps), Mex 1 Cantina (mexican food), or 450 Pizza (pizza and salads). For a nicer meal head to Obstinate Daughter (but not without a reservation)
White Point Gardens features a gazebo, oyster shell lined paths and expansive oak trees. Make sure to get a photo under the beautiful oak trees. The battery is named for a civil-war coastal defense artillery battery at the site. Check out the historic signage, along with the canons and canon balls. The area is very kid friendly, and many kids can be seen climbing on top of the cannon and cannon balls! Walk along the palm tree lined Battery Park, with historic mansions on one side of the street and the Ashley River on the other side. Across the river you can see Fort Sumter, where Civil War battles took place, Castle Pinckney, and the Sullivans Island Light House. It's a beautiful area of Charleston that is rich with history!
Holy Spokes is relatively new to Charleston. It is a city bike share service with stations scattered throughout the city. You can download the app ahead of time and pick up a bike at any station. This is a great way to see the city and bike through the beautiful downtown streets lined with historic homes. Pick up a bike at the kiosk on East Bay St near the United States Custom House. Travel down East Bay Street and check out all the quiet, historic home lined streets along the way. Some of our favorites are Queen St, Church St, Legare St, Tradd Street and Murray Blvd. Biking is a great way to see the city of Charleston
Rainbow Row is a series of 13 colorful (hence the name) historic homes. It represents the longest cluster of Georgian row houses in the United States. Rainbow Row can be seen in many paintings and postcards and is a must have photo op.
Charleston is such a beautiful city surrounded by water. Waterfront park is an 8 acre park along the Cooper River. Swing on one of the porch swings on the pier, take a photo with the Ravenel Bridge in the background, or sit on a shaded bench and take a rest. The park is filled with locals reading books or jogging. The park also features the famous Pineapple Fountain. Pineapples are a sign of hospitality in Charleston and the large fountain shaped like a pineapple is a focal point of the Waterfront Park.
The Market is one of the nations oldest public markets. Walk 4 blocks through the 200 year old building filled with local vendors. You can find anything from sweetgrass baskets to local soaps to paintings of the city. It is a great place to pick up gifts and trinkets from your visit to Charleston.
The Ravenel Bridge, which arches over the Cooper River has a walking/biking trail that many locals workout on daily. The walking path is 5 miles round trip. Many people walk to the halfway mark and walk back, or feel free to tackle the whole bridge! You'll experience a scenic walk over the water and will see boats traveling beneath you. It is a fun "local" thing to do!
