In October of 2012, Addison was in search of a date for a fall-themed college social event at a corn maze. A good friend of ours (thanks, Alex!) thought that Addison and I were a good match and suggested that Addison invite me to his event. Addison wisely followed his advice, and we went to the corn maze together for our first (blind) date. We talked, joked, and laughed all night, learning about the many commonalities that we shared (perhaps most importantly, our shared life-long love of Duke basketball). After that night, we were inseparable, except during the five plus years after college that we spent living in different cities… After we graduated college together, Addison moved first to Chapel Hill and then to Charlotte, while I moved to Richmond, Atlanta, and then started graduate school in Charlottesville. We spent many hours driving to visit each other, but the long trips were worth it every time. Whether we were watching movies, taking long walks to explore our respective new cities, or discovering our favorite restaurants, Addison and I always made the best out of our way-too-short weekends together. We even made time to travel to Colombia, Barcelona, Cuba, and Trinidad and Tobago together over our long-distance years. Though we spent most of our time apart, we certainly had fun exploring the real world together. On October 14th, 2017, Addison schemed up the most perfect proposal at the place that initially brought us together: Duke. He proposed to me at the top of the Duke Chapel, and we got to spend the weekend after our engagement celebrating in Durham with many of the friends who have always made Durham feel so special to us. Finally, after over five long years of being long-distance, we ended up in the same city, Charlottesville, VA, in the summer of 2018 when we started business school at the University of Virginia together! Life is good, and we now enjoy doing homework together, watching Duke basketball together, and calling one city home 😊
