A Maiyan Ceremony [also referred to as Haldi, Batna or Vatna], is a traditional Punjabi ceremony that takes place a day(s) prior to a wedding. This ceremony consists of friends and family rubbing a yellow paste on the bride and groom; the traditional meaning of Maiyan is to cleanse the skin and create a glow! Traditionally this ceremony involves "cleaning" the bride and groom in preparation for their wedding day. WHAT TO WEAR: Women typically wear a saree, lehenga or Punjabi outfit while Men wear a kurtauu or a Punjabi outfit. However, business casual or semi-formal wedding attire is acceptable. There will be a few light bites in addition to cocktails.

The word sangeet is Sanskrit for "sung together." A sangeet ceremony is a traditional Punjabi and North Indian prewedding ceremony involving lots of festive dancing, celebratory songs, food, and drinks. We will be mixing this Punjabi ceremony with a Vietnamese theme by wearing traditional Vietnamese clothing and eating cultured foods. Men and Women traditionally wear an "Áo dài (ow- yai)" on formal occasions. Think of the 'ow!' you might say if you burn your finger, and 'yai' rhymes with pie. 'Áo' translates as shirt and 'dài' means "long'. WHAT TO WEAR: Punjabi outifts like sares, lehengas, kurtas, dresses, suits and Áo dài's are acceptable. Cocktail dresses or business attire is also acceptable. This event is formal, and you are welcome to wear attire that represents either culture! Please do not wear these solid colors RED, PINK, & WHITE
