No dating app or "Met her at a bar" scenario here. Austin and Tatum met at a youth group when they were in high school. Tatum had eyes for Austin's best friend and Austin was, well... "not interested in Tatum" at the time. It took many years, relationships, a pandemic and some tough life trials later until Austin and Tatum reconnected as friends. With some nudging from Austin, Tatum moved from LA to Corona Del Mar in 2020. After a few beach hangs, Austin asked Tatum on a real date — to which she replied in true Tatum character, "What are your intentions?". Austin said he would always regret it if he did not take the opportunity to see if there was something real between them. One sushi date (and a few shots of sake) later, Tatum and Austin shared a first kiss. Two years later, they still can't believe they've found a soul mate in each others' best friend. It's true what they say: Sometimes what you've been looking for has been right in front of you the whole time!
If you know Tatum, then you know it's almost impossible to surprise her with anything. You'll frequently find her digging into Christmas presents or searching for hidden birthday gifts. And the proposal was no different. For months, Tatum would scour Austin's room looking for a ring and anticipated the special day anytime there was anything remotely exciting planned. Fortunately, Austin knew who he was dealing with. He planted a few red herrings to throw Tatum off the track. So, when Tatum's girlfriends made plans to go wine tasting in Malibu, Tatum didn't think much of it...at first. Despite Austin's efforts to throw her off, Tatum smelled something fishy. The day of the *alleged* wine tasting, Tatum made sure her nails were done, make up on point, and of course wore an ALL WHITE outfit just in case her assumptions were right. Sure enough, when Tatum and friends made their way up to a beautiful hilltop overlook in Malibu, there were no vineyards to be seen — but there was Austin, smiling ear to ear, waiting for her.
