Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen! And a passport! The heat index is off the charts since Aruba is so close to the Equator. Aruba is a very relaxed Island. Most restaurants can be either dressed up or down. Khaki shorts, polo shirts, t-shirts, sundresses, etc. Our go-to is lightweight, beachy fabrics. It doesn't matter when you're in Aruba! Bring comfortable shoes/sandals-it is enjoyable to walk around after dinner, go to the casinos, stop for some gelato.
WEATHER It is HOT! A UV index of 6-7 indicates high risk of harm from unprotected sun exposure. The average UV index in Aruba in June is 12-13. Good thing for the trade winds! The island sits below the hurricane belt, so there is little threat of tropical storms. (Still, lets keep our fingers crossed!)
There is a grocery store, Lings and Sons, that's nearby all hotels. It's about a 5 minute ride from the Hilton and Costa Linda each. We also always pack some snacks! Whether it's for snacks at the beach during the day, at the 3rd happy hour of the day watching the sunset on the beach, or at the midnight hour (Joe)- you can never pack enough.
Aruba is consistently ranked as one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean. In general, it is very safe to walk around anytime of day or night. You will feel this when you're there! The people are extremely friendly. As they say, it's one happy island! The taxi drivers are highly regarded in their community- they are only able to be a taxi driver if they are a born and raised Arubian. The taxis are very safe and friendly. They have so many good tips- don't be afraid to ask for suggestions!
