Neither Jonathan nor Tara intended to be at the spot where they met, but both made last-minute decisions that changed their lives. Tara was set to go on a trip with her mom when her roommates invited her to a gala in NYC. A week before she was scheduled to leave, Tara chose to postpone the trip and attend the event. Meanwhile, Jonathan was attending medical school in Pennsylvania and, on the morning of the gala, his friends reached out to see if he could make it. Despite not having a tuxedo to wear, Jonathan decided to make the drive to NYC, rent a tux minutes before the shop closed, and meet his friends to attend the gala. Almost the entire night had passed before Jonathan and Tara crossed paths. The DJ announced it was the last song of the night and when Tara heard "Sorry" by Justin Bieber come on, she decided she needed a dance partner. Love at first sight would have been a romantic cliché, except that when Tara grabbed Jonathan’s hand with the invitation “you’re cute, let’s dance,” she hadn’t actually seen his face. With his back turned to the dance floor, Jonathan’s height was enough for Tara to choose him. It may have been a meeting at the end of the night, but it was the beginning of their story. Though they were miles apart, they continued growing their relationship. Their lives continued to align when Jonathan matched for residency at the University of Miami and Tara was already licensed to practice law in Florida. So, when Jonathan asked her to move, she returned to Miami to build a life together. Since then, they have grown in their careers, explored the world, and raised a four-legged fur-child named Luna.
