Luke and Katherine first met competing for the role of Chip in "Beauty and the Beast" the musical at Calvin Christian High School. Katie ended up with the role, but she always remembered Luke, a freshman, being so kind and congratulating her. Two years later, they were paired up as chimney sweeps in "Mary Poppins." Their time dancing together on stage led to long conversations and many laughs off stage as their friendship grew.
After a wonderful summer together, Katie moved to Ann Arbor to start college at the University of Michigan while Luke entered his senior year of high school. Luke made frequent trips to Ann Arbor, Katie often visited home, and they called every day in between. The next year, Luke joined Katie across the state at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. Being only forty minutes apart, they saw each other every weekend, and their love continued to grow through time spent at church, football games, studying, and Panda Express.
For their three-year anniversary, Luke took Katie to Blue Water Grill to celebrate. After the food arrived, Luke began praying aloud as he usually did. When he said "Amen," Katie looked up to find Luke on his knee beside her. He said "I wanted to start this in prayer, because I want God to continue to be at the forefront of our relationship." Katie instantly started crying tears of joy as he continued his speech and asked her to marry him.
Hope Reformed Church in South Haven is a special place for Luke and Katherine. Every summer, Katherine visited her grandparents in South Haven and attended Hope on Sundays. When Katherine and Luke started dating, they often spent time in South Haven on the beach, eating at Clementine's, and going to movies at Moore Theatre. They are excited to start their marriage in a place so full of memories, love, and faith.
