Connor and Tahna both spent their summers salmon fishing in Bristol Bay, Alaska—Connor for 9 years and Tahna for 6. During one season, Tahna's skipper, Celeste, bought a new boat in Naknek. Celeste, Tahna, and another crew member, Maya, headed to Naknek to prepare for the season. Their tasks included stocking the boat with food, repainting, and rushing to finish last-minute projects before the season began. All the boats were out of the water in a boatyard, where the final touches were being made. Tahna's boat happened to be in the same boatyard as Connor's. With only Celeste, Tahna, and Maya as the sole women among the 20+ other boats filled with stinky men, they made quite an impression. It didn't take long for Connor to introduce himself with his classic one-liner: "I'm Connor from La Conner." The other fishermen had been watching the girls stock up their boat with supplies, and Connor was particularly concerned that they didn’t have enough food (a reflection of his own hearty appetite). He generously offered them expired applesauce and instant mashed potatoes. Tahna was immediately impressed by Connor’s gesture, and Connor, in turn, quickly took a liking to Tahna. As the fishing season began, Connor and Tahna exchanged waves and cheeky smiles as their boats passed each other. Since they were never close enough to exchange words one day, as their boats crossed paths, Connor threw Tahna a Snickers bar, which she expertly caught. In Bristol Bay, a Snickers bar is highly prized and serves as a form of currency so Tahna was giddy over this small act of kindness. The girls, excited by the exchange, urged Tahna to throw something back. When asked what could possibly top a Snickers, Tahna decided on something a bit cheekier—a pair of knickers with a note that read “thanks for the snickers… here are my knickers”... and the rest is history.
